Are bed nets so important?
Bed nets are one of the most effective and simple ways to prevent bites from mosquitoes and other insects.
Diseases such as Malaria can be transmitted by mosquito bites. Typically, mosquitoes are most active between 10 at night and 2 in the morning. Mosquito nets provide a physical barrier between you and any ‘bite-y’ bugs that might want to nibble on you during those peak times of activity!
Bed nets such as those we stock from Lifesystems are also treated with additional anti-mosquito chemicals that will keep bugs away for at least 2 years. These chemicals also keep bed nets up to 95% effective even if small holes or tears develop in your net. The World Health Organization says long-lasting insecticidal nets are one of the most important parts of malaria control efforts.
Nets treated with insecticide are also safe for use by young children. This is because the levels of insecticide used to coat the nets can be easily regulated and kept well below levels dangerous to humans.
