Can I use insect repellent and sun cream at the same time?

Usage of both insect repellents and sun creams or sunscreens have significant short and long term health benefits. This is particularly true in tropical environments. But is it safe to use both at the same time?

Luckily, yes it is!

You should take some precautions to ensure you use both safely and effectively though.

It is generally recommended that sun cream should be applied at least 15 minutes before an insect repellent. Most sun creams are required to be reapplied more frequently than insect repellents, so make sure you read the labels of both products.

It is also not recommended to use a ‘combination’ product that offers sun protection and insect repellent. This is because sun protection products tend to require more frequent reapplication than insect repellents.
