How often should I apply insect repellents?

Like any product applied to the skin, over time repellents will evaporate, rub off or be absorbed into the skin. Repellents must remain at a certain concentration on the body to remain effective. Sweating or swimming can cause repellents to wash off the skin. If that happens, you may not be as well protected as you thought.

It’s hard to say how frequently you should re-apply repellents, however given the risks associated with insect bites its best to err on the side of caution. If you’re unsure, check the label and remember to reapply after activities that may have caused the repellent to wash or rub off.
